Quitting My Pattern of Unfinished Projects: The 60-Day Book Challenge

"The scariest part isn’t even doing the work. It’s the voice that shows up around 5 minutes in and says: 'Hey bestie... this isn't good enough. Just quit.'"

For years, I’ve been standard-issue "tragic artist." My drawers and hard drives are full of daily art journals, and complete watercolor concepts that never saw the light of day. I hid behind the excuse that keeping my work private was humility. In reality? It was just fear.

Leaving Syria meant leaving a place that felt like a graveyard, only to realize some of those heavy memories moved with me. For a long time, I kept those experiences locked away inside my notebooks where they felt "safe." But keeping them locked up has quietly cost me more than the fear of being seen ever could.  So, I am doing something completely unhinged: In 60 days, I am going to finish and publish my first poetry collection.

What this means:

  1. 50 original poems processing memory, displacement, and healing.
  2. 15 original watercolor illustrations.
I owe this to my mom who always believed in me,
to my late grandmother who never had the chances I was given,
and to anyone else who has been hiding work they are proud of because they were scared it wasn't good enough.
