A City of Words in a Suitcase (Watercolor Timelapse)

Yesterday, I finally settled on the title Float or Drown and began organizing the poetry collection into four distinct sections. Today, I dove straight into the first artwork, because if I’m going to create 15 watercolor illustrations in 60 days, there’s no time to waste!

The Suitcase & The Unfair Dice Roll

The piece I worked on today is an illustration of a suitcase housing a city. The buildings are being built using Arabic calligraphy which I will do with a black pen at the end of coloring process.

Progress Check

  • Title: Float or Drown
  • Structure: 4 sections organized from 17 core Arabic poems
  • Translations: Started today - In progress (Arabic to English)
  • Illustrations: 1/15 under way!
Painting watercolors while translating poetry is definitely a heavy lift, but seeing the visual elements start to take shape makes the 60-day finish line feel a little more real.

Check out the time-lapse above of today’s painting session, where I start bringing the first major piece to life.

How You Can Support

Thanks for watching the time-lapse and sticking along for the journey. See you tomorrow for Day 4!
